In October 2017, I started studying for an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa university, kindly supported by a writing award from Jack and Audrey Ladevèze.

Deciding to commit time and money to any particular course is daunting, especially given the wide range of Creative Writing MAs available. Bath Spa has an excellent reputation, after all, but then so does UEA, and Warwick, and the Faber Academy. And – to my dismay – when I scoured the internet, I could find comparatively little about people’s experience of studying on any of these courses, or what they might look like on a day-to-day basis, or how their teaching methods might differ from one another.

This is my attempt to address that. Every week or so I will try and set down my experience of studying for this MA, as well as the different stages that I have gone through when planning for my next book.

I hope you find it useful.
